Another Christmas Make

I almost forgot to post details of this final thing I made for Christmas. This little cross stitch lavender sachet was a kit I bought when we visited Ely cathedral (I think! Although it could have been from another cathedral ..... I forget!). The design just appealed to me and I couldn't think of a better reason to buy it!

I started it when we were on holiday back in July as a little project to do in odd moments. It was so small it fitted just right in my handbag.
In the run-up to Christmas, it suddenly occurred to me that it would make a nice additional present for my Mum. Mum has made some lovely things for me over the years and I really treasure them. I thought it was about time I made something for her. I personalised the back using the same free back-stitch lettering that I used on the heart sachets.
What you can't tell is how wonderfully pungent is the lavender that came with the kit. It smells fantastic and she loved it!

what a beautiful gift elaine, I'll bet your mum was thrilled with it. one of my best friends is a cross-stitcher and I have all sorts of lovely items she has sent me, including a lavendar bag, a couple of bookmarks and several cards. as a skill I think its probably a bit to delicate for me, so I admire anyone who can do it.

Thank you Joy :)

She was! This is the first Christmas for a long time (since I was a little girl!) that I have made several things for Christmas presents.

I have got as much of a thrill seeing people's reactions ..... which might sound a bit 'wet' but it's true :)

Also ..... it's funny what people think is easy to do or not!

Hand sewing I have always found easy. However, I would love to be able to knit! Several times I have tried to teach myself but for some reason I just can't 'get' it! I just don't seem to have the patience which is odd, I guess, when I think of some of the really large sewing projects I have done.

Perhaps we can get together sometime ..... I'll teach you cross stitch if you teach me to knit :)
